Well, I've gotten my first full piece of art finished for Analeigh Rand, and I've got to say that I'm pretty happy with it. Drawing was my first love, but my portfolio was "misplaced" by my school, and I ended up not drawing for nearly five years. Once I started to get back into it, I was doing a bunch of Life Drawing, and never really got a chance to stretch my comic book muscles, so to speak.

This is the second piece I've plowed through in the last two weeks, and I'm really excited that I'm not only getting faster at the overall process (finding shortcuts in Photoshop, being less obsessive about minute details, etc), but also getting more confident about my linework in general. Also interesting is that when I was 18 I wanted to be the next Jim Lee, but now, over a decade later, I find my style easing away from all the lines and cross-hatching, really opening up some liquidity and space. The more I produce, the more my lines shift to the more "cartoony" styles of Bruce Timm or Joe Madureira. Well, maybe not so much "shift" as "try to mimic and fail horribly" -- those guys can crap out cleaner lines than me while blindfolded.
